2014 - OHL Draft (Greater Kingston AAA Hockey)

Print2014 - OHL Draft

The final day of the 2013-14 Minor Midget hockey season concluded on Saturday April 5th with the 2014 OHL draft, in which five players from the Kingston 1998 born team were selected.

Two years ago, the team only won two games and this season they set records for most wins, most points, most goals for and least goals against in their age group's history. They made the playoffs for the first time ever and won a playoff round in the ETA playoffs, which they had never done previously either. It was a banner season for the 98 Minor Midgets and it culminated with the selection of five players in the 2014 OHL draft.

Chris Paquette, the teams captain was the first one off the board, selected by the Niagara Icedogs in the 2nd round with the 30th overall pick.

Colin Tonge was the next one of the five taken, by the Owen Sound Attack in the 8th round with the 148th overall selection.

The Kingston Frontenacs then took a trio of the minor midgets, beginning with goaltender Zack Springer in the 12th round, Nic Stafford in the 14th round and Cody Smith in the 15th round.

"Obviously I'm absolutely thrilled to have five players selected in the draft. I couldn't be more proud and happy for all five guys," said Head Coach Casey Torres.
