Print2013 - OHL Draft

The Greater Kingston AAA Minor Hockey Organization is very proud and honoured to congratulate six players from the 1997 Minor Midget team, on being selected into the Ontario Hockey League, in this past Saturday's OHL draft. Aaron Luchuk, Chase Hawley, Josh Supryka, Lief Hertz, Josh Leblanc and Matthew Scott were all selected.

The first local player taken off the board was centre Aaron Luchuk, who was selected by the Windsor Spitfires in the 4th round, with selection number 68. The Spitfires have had success with Greater Kingston players before with Taylor Hall being one of the greatest Spitfires of all time and last season they selected Graeme Brown and former GK product Ryan Verbeek. Verbeek's brother Hayden, another former GK product was also selected in the 4th round by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

In the fifth round, the Jr Fronts saw Hawley and Supryka go on back to back picks. The Sudbury Wolves selected Hawley, a rugged defenseman with the 95th pick in the draft and then Supryka, a forward, went to the Belleville Bulls with the 96th pick.

After a few qiuet rounds, things picked back up in the 10th round with the Mississauga Steelheads selection of goaltender Leif Hertz at pick number 184. The Belleville Bulls jumped back into the Kingston market drafting forward Josh Leblanc with the 198th pick. The last Greater Kingston player selected was towering defenseman Matthew Scott in the 12th round to Saginaw with the 228th overall pick.
