The Peewee Greater Kingston
Jr. Frontenacs would not be denied their retribution for an earlier tournament
loss and overpowered the Halton Hurricanes 5-0 in final to take home the
championship at the Limestone City Cup held this past weekend in
Kingston/Napanee.
Andrew Botting got the Fronts on the board early and the team never looked back, scoring 2 more in second and 2 more in the third. Other scorers were Ben Campeau with 2, Grayson Ebrahim and Boden White while assist went to Jacob Froats, Nathan Woods, Wyatt Ottenhof, Payton Clarke, Botting, Ebrahim and Nolan Lalonde with his first point from the crease to add to his shutout victory. Friday in round robin play the Circle K’s squeaked out a win versus the North Central Predators 2-1 and routed the Syracuse Nationals 7-2. Brady Spry picked up the win versus Syracuse while the Lalonde got the other against the Preds. Preds game scorers were Campeau and Ebrahim with the helpers going to Lane Morency, Jackson Barnes and Ottenhof. Syracuse got on the board first but then the flood gates opened with seven different scorers hitting the mark for the Fronts. Ben Albright, Blake Aylesworth, Jacob McLellan, Ebrahim, Barnes, Campeau and Morency notched the markers with the apples going to Kevin Fitzgerald with 2, Aylesworth 2, McLellan 2, Woods, Barnes, White and Ottenhof. The only blemish on the weekend came Saturday morning where the boys came out a little flat and dropped a round robin contest 3-2 to the Hurricanes. Lalonde was in net for this one and scorers were Morency and Botting with Froats and McLellan picking up the assists. Brady Spry drew back into the crease for the semi-final rematch versus the Preds where he shut the door for the 2-0 victory. White and Morency added the punch needed with Ebrahim, Aylesworth and Albright helping out. The Peewee’s would like to thank GK and the volunteers for a great weekend and also a special shout out to missing teammate Ian MacDonnell who is on the shelf with a lower body injury. Next up for the 04’s is the continual battle for OMHA playoff positioning Friday at home to Peterborough (Invista 7pm) and Saturday home to Whitby (Invista 7pm)……..In other notes, the Frontenacs celebrated their Tourney win with some hospitality from the Botting’s, a game of shinny and a skate across Varty Lake.
