Your Minor Midget Jr Gaels kicked off the first weekend
of the season at the Titan’s Tournament in Toronto this weekend. Facing a
tough schedule against some top teams, the Jr. Gaels finished the Preliminary
Play with 3 wins and a loss to advance to the final 16 teams of the 56 team
tournament.
Your Minor Midget Jr Gaels kicked off the first weekend of the season at the Titan’s Tournament in Toronto this weekend. Facing a tough schedule against some top teams, the Jr. Gaels finished the Preliminary Play with 3 wins and a loss to advance to the final 16 teams of the 56 team tournament.
The team used Game 1 against the Sun County Panthers to get their game-legs going and ended up with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Game 2 against the highly-ranked Guelph Gryphons from the SCTA saw the Jr. Gaels exercise some offensive punch with a 4-2 win. The team battled hard in Game 3 but were outmatched by a strong Toronto Marlboros team from the GTHL to wind up on the wrong end of a 3-0 score. Undeterred, the Jr. Gaels came roaring back in Game 4 to score 2 goals in the first 45 seconds enroute to a 7-0 victory against the Sudbury Wolves.
The 3-and-1 record was enough for the team to qualify for the Elimination Round of 16 against the GTHL’s Toronto Titans on Saturday night. After a scoreless first period, the Titan’s gained the lead half-way through the second. The Jr. Gaels fought hard to tie things up with 5 mins left in the third, but couldn’t hold on and lost a 2-1 heartbreaker.
