This weekend, the Atom and Minor Peewee teams have organized a great family event for their team and one of their opponents as they took the game where it all started; on the pond!
Saturday, the Atom team faced Markham... outside! Bringing the competition to the Wolfe Island Community Center Rink across the lake, both teams dressed up in toques and old school jerseys to face off against each other in a pond hockey match up to be remembered.
Adding an original way for the game to trace back its origins to the picturesque outdoor pond, the young players were welcomed by a very professional staff that have pulled off a beautiful ice surface for the game to take place on. The Atom team wishes in fact to thank Mr. Kevin Hulton and the whole Wolfe Island Community Center for their great work in coordinating the event and making of it a success. They also extend their thanks to Williams Paving Ltd. for the very nice keepsakes handed out to the families, namely the toques.
If the Junior Frontenacs yielded a 4-2 loss to the Waxers, it certainly was not to the detriment of a fun activity for the whole family that will help those young players remember that hockey is above all a beautiful winter sport that goes far beyond the arena.

Then, on Sunday, it's up to the Minor Peewee team to take on the Peterborough Petes on the Island which will create an exciting match up for everyone who braved the cold to cheer on their favorite teams.
The staff from the Wolfe Island Community Center once again pulled off a great work by icing a high quality playing surface for the second time in as many days for GK teams to experience the beauty of hockey in its simplest form.

Surprising the players were a contingent of our very own Kingston Frontenacs who came out to the island to support our Junior Frontenacs. Quite the excitement as the big guys came over to meet the players and talk about the game with young athletes full of dreams and aspirations.
The Junior Frontenacs squeezed a 4-3 victory from a tough opposition which added to the excitement of this experience and gave both teams a shot at claiming their very own Winter Classic!
Because of its originality and its value for our young athletes, we'd like to recognize the participation of everyone involved in making of both these events a success for the young players. Thanks to the team officials from all four participating teams for accommodating the game and thanks to the main supporters who made it all happen.
