Event Notice: Roundtable on Racism in Hockey
Submitted By Public Relations on Thursday, February 21, 2019
The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen's University is pleased to announce a Roundtable on Racism in Hockey to be held Saturday March 30th in Kingston, Ontario. The objective of this full day event is to bring together hockey players, fans, parents, officials, coaches, media, administrators, and academics to address the issues that contribute to racism in hockey. But more importantly, we want to use this opportunity to discuss best practices and solutions for making anti-racism a consistent practice at hockey rinks, in leagues, and by the media. This will be a day of practical learning so that participants can leave with tangible strategies to be implemented in their various roles.

Speakers and panelists include:

  • Tony McKegney -- 13 seasons in the NHL
  • Eugene Arcand -- First Nations Sports Hall of Fame Inductee and member of the Governing Circle for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Bob Dawson -- former Black player, sportswriter, and hockey historian
  • Lali Toor, President -- Apna Hockey
  • Kalley Armstrong -- former Harvard Crimson player, Assistant Coach - Western Women's Hockey
  • Jaden Lindo -- former OHL player, current Queen's Men's Hockey
  • Erica Ayala -- sportswriter and NWHL broadcaster
  • Aaron Lakoff -- host and producer, Changing on the Fly podcast
