2019 GK Jr. Gaels Kick Off Banquet
The players, coaches, trainers, parents and volunteers of the GKHA said farewell to the Jr Frontenac’s and unveiled our new chapter as the Greater Kingston Jr Gaels. Our Emcee, Mark Potter, is a great ambassador of local minor hockey and did a fine job as usual. The audience heard Mark’s kind words about Barry Sands and Garry Young, who respectively both have awards for coaching and volunteering named in their memory. These gentleman’s past contributions to GKHA and minor hockey locally serve as a reminder of the good that can be done by those who care about serving their communities.
The Keynote address by Mr. Chris MacDonald, Amateur Scout for the Vancouver Canucks, provided a strong message about the game of hockey for our players – Find Your Fun. He works in a part of hockey that is business first and players at all levels need to Find the Fun. The love of the game is too important to not take time as players and families to reminder that this game is to be played to have FUN. This was Mr. MacDonald’s second recent time speaking at a GKHA event and we appreciate his time very much. Though his Canucks did not win the NHL Draft lottery, we still feel Vancouver can get a good pick at #10 in the first round.
Coach of the Year Award Winner -- Mr. Chris Mahon
Volunteer of the Year Award Winner – Mr. Bill Madden
The evening closed with a joint unveiling of our new Junior Gaels jerseys with an address by GK President Scott Trueman and Jeff Downie, Queens University Director, Business Development & Operations. The audience loved the new looked and both GKHA and Queens University cannot wait untime the new season begins in September.
Thank you to Players, Cosches, and Family members that attended a great night with us.
