2019/2020 Banquet
7 Year Anniversaries

To reach your 7th Anniversary as AAA Hockey player takes a special set of skills and characteristics to say the least.  Derek and Wil have shown that every year of their minor hockey career, they are amongst the best players for their age within the Greater Kingston Zone.  It is our pleasure to recognize and celebrate this special achievement that very few minor hockey players have reached.  When we are able to meet we will be very happy to present each player the newly minted Vintage Jr Gaels Anniversary Jersey and a plaque to commemorate this achievement.  Congratulations to you both.

4 Year Anniversaries

We have a great list of players who have reached the special 4th Year Anniversary Milestone with the Greater Kingston Jr Gaels.  Each of these players has shown the local hockey community that they are a high level player for their age group.  Again when we have the opportunity to meet, we will celebrate each player and present them with their Jr. Gaels Watch and plaque to recognize this achievement.

Garry Young Memorial Volunteer of the Year Winner:   Jessie Rogers

Our winner this year has been the Trainer of our GK Midget team for the past two seasons.  Over this time Jessie has proved herself to be an invaluable member of this team.  Coach Ryan Thompson let me know that Jessie is an arrive first and last to leave type of person. Her dedication to making sure the boys are both healthy and have what they need is evident to everyone that comes in contact with her. No matter if making sure the boys have tape, their water bottles are disinfected, or injuries are taped and taken care of, both for “one of her boys” or the other team.  Having a person of Jessie’s calibre at GK giving up so much of her time is something we appreciate so much.  We congratulate and thank Jessie for all that she does.

Barry Sands Memorial Coach of the Year Winner:  Kevin Griffin 

Kevin has been with GK as an Assistant and Head Coach for many years.  This year he guided the 2006 Minor Bantam’s to their best record ever at the AAA Level.  He moved this team forward by what some could argue was “leaps and bounds”.  In the coaching style of Barry Sands, for whom this award is named after, Kevin guided his players with accountability and a team first mentality.  Everyone was expected to work and practice like you play.  He had the respect of his players and never forgot that even when your working hard, their time spent at the rink still had a lot of fun times.  The culmination of these efforts was a trip to OMHA semi-finals, that unfortunately was cut off midway through the series by the COVID-19 virus.   No matter, this was a remarkable year and we congratulate Kevin on being the GK Jr Gaels Coach of the Year.  Thank you Kevin.
