From our last Greater Kingston Hockey Association board meeting.
At the AGM in May, members asked the board to discuss the need for busses this season. After a lengthy discussion it has been decided that the current policy of all teams having to use a bus for away games further than Quinte from Dec. 1st until the end of playdowns, will stand.
In the new year, a survey of parents will be completed to get a feel of what the thoughts are on using a bus during the 2024-2025 season.
All parents will be required to pay their share of the costs regarding the bus. All players will be required to ride the bus with the team, if parents decide they want to drive to bussed games, they are free to do so. We don't believe that individuals traveling alone will be covered under the GK insurance policy.
Coaches will have final say when it comes to exceptions to individual players being on the bus. But remember that if an exception is made, the family will still be required to pay their share of the cost of the bus. Teams have also already built using a bus into their budgets.
If there are any questions, please reach out to me.
This season, if coaches or managers need to book a meeting room at the Invista Center, they must do so through me. The city only allows a limited number of people to sign off on bookings. The cost of the room rental will be passed on to the team from the Treasurer (Angela W.)
Hockey development and allocations will be given to each team to empower the coaches so they know we addressed the development/goalie issues.
The Q-Shop at Queen's University (in the ARC), will have toques and bucket hats with the Jr. Gaels logo on them, available near the end of the summer. I expect these will sell quickly. The bucket hats are not to be worn to games, as there is a no hat rule, the toques are permitted in the colder part of the season.
Both the Fall Bash and Taylor Hall Classic Cup tournaments are filling up. Some age groups are completely full, with waiting lists. We will be in need of parent volunteers during the tourneys, more information will be shared at the end of the summer/early fall.
Due to the OMHA and OHF taking a summer break during the month of July, the GK Board will be doing the same. Bills will still be paid, and the 3 individuals working on tournaments will be active with finalizing them. If anything is needed in the next 4 weeks, please reach out to the President or Administrator for assistance.
